SUMMARY:
Every 10 years the United States government conducts a nationwide census to attempt to accurately count all persons living in a given location at a specific time. The information gathered from the census is then used to allocate over $675 billion in funds annually across the country.

Staff has created a Complete Count Committee to assist in ensuring Littleton’s count is as accurate and complete as possible. This will ensure that all possible funds will be made available to the city and its residents.

PRIOR ACTIONS OR DISCUSSIONS:
In 2019, council approved the staff request to pursue grant funding through the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) for promotional items to help promote the 2020 Census.

Council also approved the Intergovernmental Agreement to help pay a portion of the temporary Arapahoe County Census Coordinator Position.

ANALYSIS:

Staff Analysis
Staff is currently on track to meet all anticipated dates and scheduled events.

If Littleton’s final count is 50,000+ residents, the city becomes eligible for additional funding and grant proceeds.
