PURPOSE:

Does City Council support approval of the appointment of nine (9) members to the Littleton Arts & Culture Commission?

SUMMARY:

At the November 19, 2019 regular meeting, City Council approved the creation of the Littleton Arts & Culture Commission and directed staff and consultants to identify and recommend nine (9) members to serve on the commission in 2020.

ANALYSIS:

Staff Analysis

Staff and consultants compiled a list of approximately 40 potential candidates to serve on the commission, interviewed them to determine interest and willingness to serve, then selected 9 members for recommendation to Council. These members represent the local arts and cultural community, business leaders, and City advisory boards.

 

                     Erin Acheson, Executive Director, representing Arapahoe Philharmonic. 3-year appointment

 

                     Mike Braaten, Deputy Director of South Suburban Parks and Recreation District, representing SSPRD and The Hudson Gardens and Event Center. 2-year appointment

 

                     Kathleen Eckel, Chair of the Fine Arts Board, representing the Fine Arts Board. 1-year appointment

 

                     Michael Hommel, owner and founder of Designs by Sundown and member of Littleton Business Chamber, representing the business community. 1-year appointment

 

                     JD McCrumb, Vice President of Town Hall Arts Center board of directors, representing Town Hall Arts Center. 3-year appointment

 

                     Katherine McMurray, Member of the Museum Board and former member of the Fine Arts Board and Historic Preservation Board, representing the Museum Board. 1-year appointment

 

                     Greg Reinke, owner of Reinke Brothers, president of Historic Downtown Littleton Merchants Association and representing the greater downtown business community. 2-year appointment

 

                     Michael Palamara, Director of ACC Art and Design Center, representing Arapahoe Community College. 3-year appointment.

 

                     Monika Foley, Specialty Leasing and Common Area Creative Director, representing Aspen Grove. 2-year appointment

Fiscal Impacts

The Year 1 projected budget will include $31,500 for the DJC&A contract and $2,500 for incidentals and supplies for a total or $34,000. In succeeding years, the Commission will have no budget. Projects proposed by the Commission which require funding will come to Council through the annual budget request process.

 

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends that the City Council approve these appointments to the Littleton Arts & Culture Commission.
