REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION:
Does city council approve an amendment to the Fire Protection and Emergency Services Agreement between the City of Littleton and Lockheed Martin Space Systems?
BACKGROUND:
Lockheed Martin Space Systems (Lockheed) and its predecessors has been a valued corporate citizen in the Littleton community for many years. On January 19, 2016, Littleton Fire Rescue (LFR) entered into an agreement with Lockheed to provide fire protection and emergency medical services at its facilities in Waterton Canyon.
Lockheed is not inside the boundaries of the city or its partners in LFR. As a result, a separate agreement for service was required. With the inclusion of LFR into South Metro Fire Rescue Fire Protection District (SMFR), an amendment to the agreement with Lockheed is needed. The amendment will allow SMFR to take over the contract and provide services to Lockheed. The contract does not contain an early termination option which necessitates the amendment. City staff and representatives from SMFR have met with Lockheed staff to discuss these changes.
PRIOR ACTIONS OR DISCUSSIONS:
City council approved the Fire Protection and Emergency Services Agreement between the city and Lockheed Martin Space Systems on January 19, 2016. On April 18, 2018, a Pre-Unification Agreement between the City of Littleton and South Metro Fire Rescue Fire Protection District was entered into.
STAFF ANALYSIS:
The proposed amendment addresses the changes in fire protection and emergency services. As the city will not be providing this protection after December 31, 2018, it will no longer receive the revenue for providing such services.
