Study Session with Team Tipton on process improvements for the city’s development review processes

Body

Presented By:

Mark Relph, City Manager and Jocelyn Mills, Community Development Director

REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION:

Does council support the city’s efforts for process improvements to the development review processes, and other associated processes within Community Development?

BACKGROUND:

Earlier this year, the city manager’s office met with community development and public works departments to initiate improvements to the city’s development review processes; from concept to final construction of projects.

Based on experience in other jurisdictions, the firm of Team Tipton was hired to assist in this effort.  Input was initially received from community development and public works staff, the city manager’s office, other city departments, and community members who had interaction with the city’s development review processes.  From there, Team Tipton helped staff recognize that other processes within community development also need to be reviewed and addressed in order to impact the efficiency and effectiveness of the development review process.

This study session is to bring city council up to speed on the status of this improvement project with Team Tipton, in order to create a culture of operational excellence.
