Title

Motion to appoint Council Member Schlachter as the city liaison to the Littleton Public Schools

Body

Presented By:

Mark Relph, City Manager

REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION:

Does city council support appointing Council Member Schlachter to the Littleton Public Schools subcommittee?

BACKGROUND:

Early this year, the Mayor had suggested the city council reinstate a council liaison to the Littleton Public Schools (LPS). The city has not actively pursued this assignment for at least three years.

The council liaison would attend LPS Board meetings and report back to council on issues the city may share a common interest. The purpose would be to look for opportunities to improve coordination and collaboration between the two agencies and thereby better serve our collective residents.

This idea was also discussed at the council’s retreat in February of this year as another approach in addressing what would later become the council’s third strategic imperative - Collaborative Relationships. The Mayor was able to recently confirm with LPS their interest and they have agreed to proceed.

The Mayor has the authority to recommend such an assignment to the council for consideration and approval. Mayor Brinkman has discussed the assignment with Council member Schlachter and he has agreed to serve if so approved by council.

PROPOSED MOTION:

Proposed Motion

I move to appoint Council Member Schlachter as the city liaison to the Littleton Public Schools.
