Title

Authorities, Boards & Commissions Interview Process

Body

Presented By:

Mark Relph, City Manager

POLICY QUESTION:

Does city council support the revised policy concerning interviews for Authority, Board, and Commission applicants?

BACKGROUND:

The interview process for the authorities, boards, and commissions in recent years has been for all council members to participate in all interviews for every position. This created challenges in the coordination of schedules and documents with seven interviewers, not to mention the significant amount of time over three evenings. In addition, this process could be considered intimidating or overwhelming for candidates participating in the interview process and lead to lengthy interviews extending late into the evening for all involved.

STAFF ANALYSIS:

Staff would suggest the proposed policy simplifies and clarifies the process for city council and the applicants. In addition, staff believes the proposed policy would be more applicant friendly and increase efficiency.

FISCAL IMPACTS:

N/A

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends council adopt a formal policy on Authorities, Boards, and Commissions in order to provide more clarity to its practices.
