Study Session on the Draft Mineral Station Framework Plan

SUMMARY:
The study session is for Planning Commission to review the rough draft of a Mineral Station Framework Plan.
BACKGROUND:
On December 12, 2017, city council determined it was premature at this time to establish a master plan for the Mineral Light Rail Station. This was in large part due to the issues of traffic and parking raised by the public during the 2016 community engagement process to discuss a master plan - that it was premature to discuss a master plan when the future of the intersection of Mineral and Santa Fe Drive was unknown but needs to be improved, and it is still unknown on a timeframe for an expansion of the light rail system to Lucent Boulevard and what impact that will have on the Mineral Station. Instead, the direction was to use the community engagement comments (from the 2016 engagement process) to create a framework plan for the station property and surrounding area.
From that direction, staff met with the Planning Commission Chair and Vice Chair and decided that first step was for the Planning Commission to discuss the rough draft of a framework plan. Next step will be to hold a joint study session with City Council scheduled for January 23, 2018. From there a public meeting will be scheduled for input on the draft plan as well as posted on-line for additional input opportunities.
