Littleton/Englewood Wastewater Treatment Plant Strategic Plan

Body

Presented By:

Keith Reester, Public Works Director and John Kuosman,  Waste Water Treatment Plant Director

BACKGROUND:

Mr. Kuosman will be presenting to city council the Environmental Scan & Strategic Direction for the Littleton/Englewood Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP). This is an opportunity to discuss the direction of the WWTP and to prepare for the joint meeting with the Englewood city council on August 17th. Mr. Kuosman will also update the council on the progress of the issues identified at the previous joint meeting early this spring.

An update will also be provided on the potential of the biogas application process and the environmental and financial advantages of such a program at the WWTP. This is for informational purposes and will be discussed at the joint meeting in August for formal direction.

Staff is now is a better position to understand the needed capital investments at the WWTP with the upcoming issuance of the operating permit from the State of Colorado. The WWTP strategic direction and estimates for upcoming capital at the plant will be included in the city of Littleton’s fiscally constrained five-year financial plan for the sanitary sewer utility. A study session with council has been scheduled for August 8th to review the preliminary results of the financial plan and begin some discussion and direction for the sanitary sewer utility. The more detailed budget review of the utility will occur in early September.
