Body

Presented By:
Mayor Phil Cernanec and Council Member Debbie Brinkman

POLICY QUESTION:
Does city council support expenditure of $25,000 to be used by the city manager to develop and host an economic development community meeting?

BACKGROUND:
The city council has a goal of economic development and has allocated substantial funds and resources and directed the city manager to focus on proactive economic development.  The city council has directed the city's urban renewal authority, Littleton Invests For Tomorrow (LIFT), to proceed with conditions surveys and development of urban renewal areas for several commercial areas throughout the city.  There is significant misinformation being communicated throughout the community.  The city council believes it is important for the community to receive accurate and complete information regarding city council's economic development goals and objectives, as well as the current work underway.

The city council would like the city manager to develop a city-wide community meeting and is authorized to expend up to $25,000 to do so.  The purpose of the meeting will be to provide information regarding economic development priorities within the City of Littleton. Invitations to the meeting should be sent to all mailing addresses of the city via first-class mail. The meeting should also be publicized through other media, in the city manager's discretion.  The time, duration, and location of the event shall also be at the city manager's discretion, but shall occur prior to the end of October, 2014.

FISCAL IMPACTS:  $25,000
