POLICY QUESTION:
Does city council support changing the name of East Fremont Avenue in Littleton Village to East Fremont Place?
BACKGROUND:
On July 1, 2014, the city council approved a final plat for Littleton Village, which included street names. After the final plat was recorded, it was brought to the planning staff's attention that the same hundred block of East Fremont Avenue exists in the City of Centennial two blocks to the north of Littleton Village.
STAFF ANALYSIS:
Even though the street to the west of Broadway is named West Fremont Avenue, the Denver street layout grid used by Littleton allows for an east-west street to be called "Place." Littleton has other east-west streets inside of the city limits that have been named both Avenue and Place in the same hundred block. Changing the street name from Avenue to Place will reduce confusion to emergency services and the people who may use both streets.
FISCAL IMPACTS:
Changing the name of the street is not expected to have any fiscal impacts.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
To reduce confusion, staff recommends changing the name of East Fremont Avenue, east of South Broadway in Littleton Village, to East Fremont Place. Staff recommends approving the ordinance on first reading and setting a public hearing date for February 17, 2015.
PROPOSED MOTION:
Proposed Motion
I move to approve on second reading the ordinance changing the name of East Fremont Avenue in Littleton Village to East Fremont Place.
