Motion to approve an amendment to the City Manager’s contract approving a salary adjustment

PURPOSE:

City council conducted an annual performance evaluation of City Manager Mark Relph.  Based on the 2019 performance evaluation, it was determined by council to award a 5.4% pay increase.

SUMMARY:

City council hired Mark Relph on May 17, 2017 for the city manager position.  Annual performance evaluations have been conducted in 2018 and 2019. 

 

PRIOR ACTIONS OR DISCUSSIONS:

Council worked with a facilitator to review the city manager's performance and established goals.  Two executive sessions were held on May 14 and June 4, 2019 to discuss the findings.

The city manager implements council's goals and objectives and upholds the guiding principles and it is a best practice to periodically evaluate their performance and update their agreement.

 

Fiscal Impacts

Should city council choose to provide the recommended salary adjustment, the cost would be an annual increase of $9,871.26 retroactive to June 1, 2019.

 

Alternatives

Alternatives are to approve or not approve the pay increase.
