Title

Motion to reappoint Ethan Feldman as municipal court judge for a two-year term and to provide a compensation adjustment based on his 2016 performance evaluation.

Body

Presented By:

Mayor Bruce O. Beckman

POLICY QUESTION:

Does city council support reappointing Ethan Feldman as municipal court judge for an additional two-year term, with a $9 per hour increase, based on high performance ratings?

BACKGROUND:

The city council held a performance review of Judge Feldman at its January 10, 2017 study session. Based upon discussion at that meeting, a contract has been prepared.  It includes a total increase of ten percent - five percent this year and five percent next year. The previous hourly rate was $90 per hour and the new rate is $99 per hour for the two-year contract.

In accordance with Section 58 of the Littleton City Charter, the municipal court judge is appointed by council for a term of two years.

FISCAL IMPACTS:

In accordance with the newly adopted city code section 1-6-21, the judge's compensation will be set at an annual budgeted amount of $79,596, but will be based on a fixed formula of hours worked multiplied by an hourly rate of $99.

PROPOSED MOTION:

Proposed Motion

I move to reappoint Judge Ethan Feldman as the municipal court judge for an additional two-year term, effective February 1, 2017, at the budgeted annual amount of $79,596, based on a fixed formula of hours worked multiplied by an hourly rate of $99; the city attorney is hereby directed to prepare, and the mayor is authorized to execute, a two-year contract with Judge Feldman.
