PURPOSE:
Does council support the temporary closure of Main Street, or other municipally owned public right-of-way, during specifically designated days and times to be used by local businesses as outdoor space?

SUMMARY:
City staff has been working with the downtown merchants as well as the Littleton Business Chamber and Tri-County Health to develop a measured approach for businesses along Main Street to open once the Governor announces if, when, and under what guidelines restaurants and bars can legally reopen. The Governor is scheduled to make that decision prior to May 25.

Staff Analysis
At the direction of the City Manager, the Communications Department, along with staff from other city departments, has been actively engaged with our downtown businesses and the Historic Downtown Merchants Association to develop a plan to use Main Street, or a portion thereof, as extended sidewalk space. This plan includes GIS mapping of possible extended space per business, necessary signage, discussion on barriers and how to control the extended space, etc.
The City Manager submitted the plan to Tri-County Health on May 8 and received feedback last week.

This action aligns with elements of both Goal 1: Quality Community and Goal 2: Financial Sustainability.
