SUMMARY:
On February 5, 2019, city council voted to approve the creation of the Next Generation Advisory Committee (NGAC), to be made up of seven (7) to eleven (11) members who either live, work, or attend school in the City of Littleton, with terms to begin in May of 2019. On February 18, 2020, city council voted to amend the NGAC bylaws which allowed for, in part, the increase of maximum number of members from eleven (11) to fifteen (15).
To fill the increased number of members and backfill vacancies, in February and March of 2020 the city ran a recruitment campaign on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Nextdoor, and on the city's website. Additionally, flyers were posted in restaurants and given to schools to be handed out to parents at PTO meetings and with meals to go. Due to COVID-19, it is unclear how many, if any, of the flyers were distributed to students.
PRIOR ACTIONS OR DISCUSSIONS:
The city received 19 applications and 12 applicants were interviewed on April 30 and May 1, 2020 by Mayor Pro Tem Melin and Council Member Grove. Three of the applicants withdrew from the process and four failed to respond to requests to schedule an interview.
When council originally created the NGAC, the intent was to review their progress after two years; therefore, the NGAC currently sunsets on December 31, 2020. For this reason the appointments are for one year. A study session prior to the end of the year will be scheduled for council to make their review of NGAC and decide if the committee continues.
