DISCUSSION:
The recently completed Broadway Corridor Study was a multijurisdictional effort - including the cities of Englewood, Centennial, and Denver, plus Arapahoe County, Douglas County, CDOT, DRCOG, and RTD - to reimagine the Broadway corridor as a safer roadway that provides convenient access to users across all modes of transportation. The recommendations from the study are in line with the transportation goals and principles city council has affirmed over the last 10 months through the Safer Streets initiative and through other transportation related programs and projects. Staff worked with the Transportation Mobility Board on this project, per the agreement among the parties to work with advisory bodies throughout the project.
Staff has been proactive in seeking funding to construct recommendations from the Broadway Corridor Study and has secured funding for design and partial reconstruction of the Broadway and Littleton Blvd and Broadway and Mineral Ave intersections.
BACKGROUND:
In 2019 staff submitted a TIP application for funding for the Broadway Corridor Study. Initially the project was waitlisted, but additional funding became available for the project in 2021. After establishing IGAs and going through a competitive procurement process, the project kicked off in late 2021. The study document was completed in May of 2024 and early action items for the project were completed in June of 2024.
