PURPOSE:
To proactively adopt a calendar of all known meeting dates, and cancelations of meetings, of the Littleton City Council to provide for more efficient scheduling of agenda items and to better inform our community.
LONG-TERM OUTCOME(S) SERVED:
High-Quality Governance
DISCUSSION:
The city has maintained a public-facing Tentative Council Calendar on its website and, in 2024, adopted the first annual City Council meeting calendar. By adopting an annual meeting calendar, efficiency is gained by enabling city council and staff to schedule other events and meetings, and to schedule any necessary travel, far in advance. The council may, via motion, amend the adopted calendar throughout the year if deemed necessary.
The following council meetings conflict with observed city holidays, other known events, or conferences which members of council generally attend are recommended for cancellation:
• Regular meeting: February 24, 2026 - Boards and Commissions interviews
• Study Session: March 17, 2026 - NLC conference
• Regular meeting: June 23, 2026 - CML conference
• Study session: June 30, 2026 - Summer break
• Regular meeting: July 7, 2026 - Summer break
• Study session: July 14, 2026 - Summer break
• Regular meeting: August 4, 2026 - National Night Out (NNO)
Including the above dates, the annual 2026 City Council Meeting Calendar will provide a four-week summer break, beginning with the week of June 23 for the CML conference. Council may also opt to return for the July 14, 2026, study session, thereby reducing the summer break to three weeks.
Council may want to also consider the following meeting dates that conflict with other meetings or community events:
• Regular meeting: November 17, 2026 - NLC
• Study session: November 24, 2026 - Thanksgiving week
• Study session: December 22, 2026 - Christmas week
BACKGROUND:
Section 27 of the city charter states that the council shall meet regularly at least once each month and that the meeting shall be set at a day and hour to be fixed from time to time by the rules and procedures of each council. Per council’s adopted Legislative Rules, Section II, regular meetings are to be held on the first and third Tuesday of each month with study sessions being held on the second and fourth Tuesdays.
