PURPOSE:

A joint resolution of the city councils of Englewood, Littleton, and Sheridan, Colorado, requesting that the Regional Transportation District (RTD) establish a bus stop serving the Bridge House Ready to Work program located at 4675 S. Windermere Street in Englewood.

LONG-TERM OUTCOME(S) SERVED:

Vibrant Community with Rich Culture, Robust and Resilient Economy, Safe Community, and High-Quality Governance

DISCUSSION:

The Cities of Englewood, Littleton, and Sheridan are committed to supporting housing stability, employment access, and self-sufficiency for all residents within the south metro area. The Bridge House Ready to Work Program located at 4675 S. Windermere Street in Englewood provides transitional employment, housing, and support services to individuals experiencing homelessness, serving clients from across the region. On a year-round basis, Bridge House in Englewood serves 49 individuals formerly experiencing homelessness in its Ready to Work Program and another 20 people currently experiencing homelessness in the Tri Cities Navigation Center also operated by Bridge House.

BACKGROUND:

Access to reliable public transportation is essential for Ready to Work participants to obtain and maintain employment, access healthcare, and attend appointments and community services necessary for successful reentry and reintegration. The current lack of a bus stop within close walking distance of 4675 S. Windermere Street presents a significant barrier to clients and staff of the program, limiting equitable access to regional transit services. The Cities of Englewood, Littleton, and Sheridan support increased transit accessibility for vulnerable populations and recognize the value of coordinated regional efforts to address homelessness and unemployment.

This joint resolution was initially discussed by the Tri-Cities Homelessness Steering Committee, prior to being referred to each city’s council.
